PASSION & POTENTIAL
FIRE birthed out of the desire to IGNITE the passion of under-represented, under-privileged youth in the STEM and STEAM fields. Our organization provides students an opportunity to compete and thrive in the STEM field. Youth participate in STEM competitions, prepare for internships as high school students, develop technical capabilities, engage professional engineers, prepare for standardized testing, and improve soft skills. Plus, we have fun by introducing STEM as a competition.

On September 29th, NSBE FIRE was at NASA's 60th Anniversary STEM Fair. Each NSBE competition team created an activity for the students to do there. The Ten80 team brought their cars and let students test the engine and see how large they are. TMAL had elementary, middle and high school math worksheets. To complete worksheets, the students had to apply math principles, such as addition, subtraction,.order of operations, etc.. Team members were available to go over the answers and provide assistance. When the worksheet was complete, the students received a prize. In total, over 75 worksheets were completed by attendees. The Vex team brought their robot and let students feel the attachments. To showcase our other activities at our chapter and to show what we are doing in Principles of Engineering later in the year, we brought electronic circuit sets with fans and songs for the students to play with. Each circuit made students learn about current and battery strength. Some of our students were able to tour NASA's Campus and meet some of the civil servants on site.
